A 38-year-old London man who died in a motorcycle crash over the weekend was a dad-to-be and was “really diligent about safety,” said his partner of 10 years.

“That is part of why this is so shocking for us,” said Melissa Biemans, in an exchange over Facebook.

“He always drove safely and with his gear. He always kept himself with like-minded riders who knew that safety is the biggest thing when it comes to riding a motorcycle.”

Phillip Howard died from his injuries after the blue and white motorcycle he was riding southwest on Spooky Hollow Road Saturday left the roadway and crashed with a metal gate and a tree, said provincial police.

He was riding with other motorcyclists at the time, and police have said speed and alcohol are not considered contributing factors in their investigation.

Biemans said Howard often told her about rides he’d go on, and how “he turned around to come home” if others were driving recklessly.

But she remembers her partner as more than just a motorcycling enthusiast.

“He was funny and charming, and always ready with a smile,” she said.

He played on several sports teams, and “he was caring and faithful to everyone he knew.”

He was also planning to attend an appointment with Biemans to hear their child’s heartbeat for the first time, she explained.

“He was my best friend, and I could always count on him.”

“We were so happy.”
