Heat wave leads to spike in A/C service calls in Winnipeg

A Winnipeg heating and air conditioning company says the extreme heat is to thank for an ‘absolutely insane’ amount of calls over the last week.

Reliable Heating and Air Conditioning told Global News they are trying to get to about 50 service calls a day, compared to 10 to 15 calls when the weather is average.

“It’s been absolutely insane,” service manager Clint Watters said. “We’re trying to get to every call possible.”

Clogged units, dirty filters and dead batteries in thermostats are some of the most common issues he comes across on a daily basis.

“Could be lack of maintenance, wear and tear,” he said. “When it’s this hot everything is working much harder and a lot more, too.”

Watters suggests regular maintenance, at least once a year and before summer time.

He said it’s much cheaper to replace parts than risking irreparable damage.

“A new install costs a few grand, compared to a few hundred dollars.”
