Watchdog investigates Saint-Michel shooting involving Montreal police

Montreal police were involved in a shooting in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened in an alleyway behind 8470 Saint-Michel Boulevard just north of Deville Street.

According to an initial statement released by the Quebec Bureau of independent investigations (BEI), around 1:45 p.m. two police officers responded to multiple calls about a conflict between a group of individuals. At least one was believed to be armed.

When the officers arrived, a witness directed them to an alleyway where the alleged armed individual was.

The officers came face-to-face with one armed male suspect in the alleyway and opened fire.

The suspect was struck by at least one bullet and was treated for an injury to his upper body. His life is not in danger.

The officers were transported to hospital and treated for shock.
