The government of Quebec announced financial aid to Quebec’s watershed organizations.

Minister of Maritime Affairs Jean D’Amour, MNA for Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata, announced Monday morning that the Regroupement des organismes de bassins versants du Québec, a non-profit organization created in 2001, will receive a maximum amount of $1.5 million for the next two years for the management of a new program.

Run by the Fonds bleu, or “Blue Fund,” created as part of Quebec’s 2018 maritime strategy to promote sustainable development, this program aims to manage sediments and protect natural aquatic habitats as well as the tributaries of the Saint Lawrence River.

The government says that this move represents an important step in improving the quality of the water and the conservation of the river’s inhabitants.
