Campers in Western Manitoba were witnesses to some wild weather Sunday,
Environment Canada confirmed a tornado touched down on Lake of the Prairies and became a waterspout.
The tornado/waterspout appeared at 3:40 p.m. and lasted for a few minutes, mainly over water. No injuries have been reported.
The wild weather was thanks to a cold front that swept through the province, said David Phillips with Environment Canada, and the “tornadic waterspout” on Lake of the Prairies likely started on land as a tornado.
“We had some very excellent videos that we could confirm, we didn’t even have to go out there and look at any damage because there wasn’t very much damage at all.”
Lake of the Prairies is about 400 kilometres west of Winnipeg, near the Saskatchewan border.
“I understand about six of those have been over water.”
Manitoba typically sees 10 confirmed tornadoes a year, said Phillips.
Environment Canada also received reports of funnel clouds near Waywayseecappo.
