Police watchdog says no charges against Thompson RCMP officers

The Independent Investigation Unit says officers will face no charges after a man suffered a broken rib during arrest in Thompson.

On March 13, RCMP were called to remove a drunk man from a residence and had to chase the man down and tackle him.  The man complained about pain in his side, was taken to hospital and was found to have a broken rib.

After interviewing witnesses and the man who sustained the injuries, Zane Tesslet, IIU Civilian Director, said “Police are authorized to use force in the lawful execution of their duties … it was clear the man was unwilling to be detained.”

It was determined that there were insufficient grounds to lay any charges against the arresting officers.
