Evacuation alert downgraded in West Kelowna near Law Creek fire

The Law Creek wildfire, burning six kilometres southwest of West Kelowna, has now grown to eight hectares in size. Due to the growth, 198 homes in the area have now been placed under evacuation alert – Jul 20, 2018

The Law Creek wildfire, burning six kilometres southwest of West Kelowna, forced the evacuation alert of 198 homes in the upper Glenrosa area of the city Friday morning.

As of Friday afternoon, 69 of those properties under evacuation alert have now been rescinded.

The Law Creek wildfire is an estimated eight hectares in size.

A detailed map showing all the properties on evacuation alert from the Law Creek wildfire can be found at cordemergency.ca/map.The remaining 129 properties identified Thursday remain on evacuation alert, meaning residents at those properties need to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.

All previously issued evacuation orders and alerts remain in effect.

An Emergency Support Services (ESS) reception centre at the Lakeview Heights Baptist Church, 2630 Alhambra Dr., West Kelowna, will reopen Friday at 8:30 a.m. to help affected residents on evacuation order. Residents must register at the reception centre to receive any assistance and lodging from ESS volunteers.
