A man in Kingston is facing several charges after a police chase led to his arrest.
On July 17 at 12:30 a.m., police say the man was observed driving erratically, swerving in and out of the wrong lane on Conacher Drive.
Officers tried to stop the man, but police said he did not stop and allegedly ran a stop sign to avoid police. Eventually, after making several quick turns to allegedly avoid police, the car ran into a tree stump, running off the road on Guthrie Drive, striking another tree.
The man then allegedly fled the vehicle on foot and tried to escape by running through backyards and by jumping fences.
Police say they found the man lying on the ground behind a home on Abbey Dale Court, where they say he was lying on his hands, refusing to show them to police. Officers had to use force to arrest him.
The man was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing on Tuesday.
Once he was arrested, police say they learned the man already had 10 Canada-wide driving suspensions, dating back as far as March 2001.
The 47-year-old Kingston man was charged with 10 counts of driving with a disqualified licence, dangerous driving, failure to stop for police and resisting arrest.
