Two men have been arrested and are in police custody following an armed robbery in Hammonds Plains, N.S., Tuesday morning.
Nova Scotia RCMP say the robbery happened around 9:45 a.m. at a business along Hammonds Plains Road.
Police say two masked men — one carrying a firearm — got out of a vehicle in the business’s parking lot, approached an employee and pointed the firearm at them while demanding money.
The employee handed the suspects an undetermined amount of cash.
The RCMP’s investigation led them to Hammonds Plains Road near Highway 102 Exit 2B, where a suspect vehicle crashed.
The driver was arrested at the scene, but police say the passenger fled and was pursued by the Halifax Regional Police canine unit.
Police believed the passenger – who was possibly armed – was in the area of Bedford Hills Road. Residents living on the road were asked to stay inside their homes for safety reasons.
“The suspect was tracked and located in the backyard of a home where he was arrested,” police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.
