A Winnipeg driver has been arrested and charged after RCMP said he threw an axe and a bat at officers Saturday.

Lac du Bonnet RCMP said they received a call of a possible impaired driver around 5:30 p.m July 7.

Officers spotted the suspect truck during a patrol on Highway 11, near the intersection of Highway 44 but it did not immediately pull over.

A couple kilometers later it stopped on the side of the road, but when the driver was told he was under arrest, police said he jumped back in the truck, put it in reverse and rammed the RCMP truck.

He was stopped 100 meters later and that’s when police said he got out and threw a bat and then an axe at them.

When they final placed him under arrest, police said the accused then spit on one of the officers.

Bradley Edward Lasko, 42, has been charged with;

  • operation of a motor vehicle when pursued by police
  • impaired operation
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • dangerous driving
  • assault police officer with a weapon
  • mischief over $5000
  • resisting arrest

RCMP said he was already wanted on several warrants from Winnipeg police.
