A man dressed in a suit and riding a paddleboard is not what people expect to see crossing the Hudson River into New York, but a New Jersey man gave people a sight to remember as he did just that, en route to a work meeting.
The man, identified later as Scott Holt of Jersey City, N.J., was caught on camera on June 21 on his paddleboard, making his way across the body of water.
In an interview with the Global News, Holt said he made the decision to use the alternative mode of transportation because he wanted to save some money.

Holt made the decision to use his paddleboard before leaving his home, he said, but wasn’t too concerned about making his way across the water.
According to Holt, he has past experience paddleboarding, and previous experience in sports gave him the balance he felt he needed to make the crossing.
Holt said he was heading to a meeting for something to manage his comedy career, which “did not go well,” though he said his wet shoes from the journey may have only been part of the reason.
“I’m not for everybody,” he said.
There were a few close calls as he made his way across the Hudson, Holt told Global News, as he was dealing with several waves left in the wake of passing boats, but he didn’t run into real trouble until he was approaching the New York side.
As he approached the docks, he found a ladder at a closed-down water taxi dock to climb, but there was a police officer and some other people waiting.
The officer began yelling at him, Holt said, and he offered to dock somewhere else but was told to come up.
Once getting on the dock, he was also met by a New York waterway official who came over “cursing me out.”
Police did not arrest Holt, but he said he was told they could have “based on how I was paddling up on them and having a bag.” He was thankful he was allowed to get to his meeting instead.

Asked about his wife’s reaction, he said she got mad because she didn’t go with a life jacket and had not leashed the board to his leg, saying he was called several names as he was leaving.
In the end, though the meeting didn’t go as well as it could have, he says, he still made it with time to spare.
