A horse had to be euthanized in Maple Ridge on Friday after being hit by a car.
Ridge Meadows RCMP say around 3:40 p.m., officers were called about a horse in a ditch in the 22000-block of 132 Avenue.
It appears the rider-less horse had escaped its holding area and jumped out from a driveway into traffic. A car travelling eastbound struck the horse. The driver pulled over immediately and called the police.
When the horse was hit, it suffered damage to its legs and had made its way down an embankment into the ditch.
A passerby tried to comfort the injured horse, and Mounties say due to the unpredictability of the animal, she ended up getting pinned underneath the horse.
A veterinarian then attended the scene, and sadly, the animal was euthanized.
The injured passerby was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
