Civilians save woman who allegedly drove car into Belleville river

Belleville police say three people assisted in saving a woman who allegedly drove her car into the Moira River on Sunday.

A 56-year-old woman allegedly lost control and drove over the embankment while she was going southbound on Cannifton Road south of the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.

Brett Black was a witness at the scene. He says that things were a bit scary when you could see the woman banging on her car windows from inside the car, unable to get out.

Police say three passersby went into the Moira River to help the unidentified woman escape her car.

Police added that the woman was not injured but was issued a provincial offence notice for careless driving.
