Police charge man accused in violent attack on woman caught on video in Brampton

BRAMPTON, Ont. – Police say a man accused of attacking a woman in broad daylight west of Toronto has turned himself in after investigators released video of the alleged incident.

The video, released by Peel regional police on Tuesday, shows a man following a 23-year-old woman who is walking with a small child. The clip shows the man pushing the woman and then slamming his hand into her back as she bends over.

Peel police say the incident began around 7:45 p.m. on June 1 when the accused allegedly approached the woman at a convenience store in Brampton, Ont.

They say the man made conversation with the woman and later followed her in his car when she left on foot, and then approached the woman a second time, which is when the alleged attack took place.

Police said Anirudha Nayagam, of Brampton, turned himself in to police on Tuesday after the video was released.

They said Nayagam is charged with sexual assault, assault and criminal harassment.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
