One man is in custody following a high-risk takedown in Brighton on Wednesday morning.
Northumberland OPP were called to a reported break-and-enter in progress at a Butler Road residence near the town’s south end.
“Witnesses reported that a male entered a home brandishing what appeared to be a hand gun,” stated Const. Kimberly Johnston.
The suspect fled on foot before police arrived.
Police launched an extensive search which included the Emergency Response Team.
Three schools in the area were placed in a hold-and-secure protocal as a precaution while OPP ordered CN Rail to halt its train service through the town as the search continued.
A suspect was eventually located in the area of Ontario and Butler streets.
“A male matching the description was located nearby; he was arrested and is currently under investigation,” Johnston said.
The hold-and-secure at Brighton Public School, East Northumberland Second School and Spring Valley Public School was lifted just before 11 a.m.
Police utilized a K9 unit to assist in searching the scene for evidence including a weapon.
On Thursday afternoon, police issued details on the arrest of a man.
Dylan Myles Blaker of no fixed address was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Resisting a peace officer
- Escaping lawful custody
- Obstructing a peace officer
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Fail to comply with recognizance
There were no reported injuries, police said.
“This investigation is still ongoing and is being led by the Northumberland Crime Unit,” police said.
