The homicide unit has been called in after a Winnipeg man was reported missing early Tuesday morning.
Eduardo Balaquit, 59, was last seen on Monday at around 6 p.m. at his home in the Amber Trails area.

Winnipeg police said in a release Wednesday that Balaquit was believed to have been working in the 300 block of Keewatin Street between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m. Monday and may have been in a grey/silver 2012 Dodge Caravan.
Balaquit’s son, Edward, said the van was found with its window smashed.
“Police… advised us not to get any closer,” Edward Balaquit said. “It brings up the worst-case scenario in your mind.”

Edward said his dad has a full-time job as a machine operator, but also owns a cleaning company. On Monday night he was out at a facility on Keewatin.
When he didn’t return home by midnight, they tried to call him, but there was no answer.
His brother and aunt drove to Westcon, where he was supposed to be working, but his vehicle wasn’t in its usual spot.
At 5 a.m. Tuesday they called police, as well as area hospitals. The manager of Westcon then called the family and said he had found his vehicle parked behind one of the buildings on the lot.
“It was nicely parked behind the building, as if a person intentionally brought it there,” Edward said.
Family said nothing appeared to have been taken from the van and they did not see any blood.
Balaquit is described as 5’4″ in height, 155 lbs in weight and has a medium build, with black hair/brown eyes. Police said he was last seen wearing a black zip-up sweater, black pants and black shoes.
Family spent much of Tuesday searching for him and are organizing another search Wednesday night.
