Firefighters remain on scene following a fire at an East Vancouver warehouse building at Pender and Clark Streets on Wednesday night.
The fire started at around 10 p.m. at a building that houses MET Fine Printers.
That building has been destroyed.
It was a three-alarm fire with more than 60 firefighters on the scene at the height of the blaze.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
Fire personnel initially treated it in an offensive manner, going inside before flames started to show.
Then they pulled out and moved into defensive mode.
The fire was concentrated in a back alley off of East Pender Street.
“This particular building had a basement that does make it quite dangerous as well,” said Acting Batt. Chief Paul Gobillot with Vancouver Fire Rescue Services. “That’s another reason why we didn’t want crews inside but the fire got down into the basement, which is very difficult to reach. We have now brought in an excavator and shortly after we will get the gas line shut off to the building.”
Crews went through 300 bottles of air fighting this fire.
No one was injured in the fire.
Flames and smoke could be seen as far away as Cambie Street and 8th Avenue.
