History

North Vancouver — one name, two distinct places.

The area was first inhabited by the ancestors of the Squamish, Tsleil-Wauth and the Musqueam peoples who would use the area to hunt, fish and carry out other activities endemic to their way of life.

The District of North Vancouver was incorporated in 1891, taking in an area from Horseshoe Bay to the Indian Arm.

The City of North Vancouver would be incorporated as its own municipality in 1907.

The city council looked into re-amalgamating in 1957 but it never happened.
