History
A relatively young B.C. municipality, Logan Lake‘s history goes back many more years than its life, to 1871, when mining in the Highland Valley started to take off.
About 100 years later, communities began to spring up to service mining companies, and that was the story for Logan Lake, which was incorporated as a village in 1970.
It would become a district municipality in 1983.
Logan Lake endured a rough time amid the recession of the 1980s, and it was thought for a time that the community would become a ghost town.
But it persisted, offering amenities that many residents would normally enjoy in urban areas.
Much of Logan Lake’s population remains employed by the Highland Valley Copper mine, the biggest open-pit copper operation in North America.
