The exercise was a chance for Transit Police to work with Vancouver police, B.C. Ambulance, and Transport Canada so they can be prepared to respond to any type of situation in the city.

In the scenario, officers respond to a call of shots fired from a West Coast Express train. Someone has also been injured in this scenario.

As the officers came down to the platform, they moved to arrest the suspect. The individual was called out, placed on the ground and was under arrest before one of their explosive dogs came in to check the suspect to assure he didn’t have anything further dangerous on him.

When they successfully removed him from the scene, B.C. ambulance was able to come in and take care of the victim.

“A lot of planning goes into these events because a lot of people are involved,” Clint Hampton from Transit police says, “but it’s so important, because these kind of events, we are very fortunate aren’t happening. This isn’t something that we’re going to deal with on a day-to-day basis but if it does happen we want to be the best that we can be at responding to it.”

Hampton adds that these exercises are important because they can experience one of these situations in an environment that they are able to make mistakes in and gives them an opportunity to learn from it.
