London police seat belt enforcement blitz nabs same driver twice

London police released the results of a long weekend seat belt enforcement blitz on Wednesday, noting a total of 59 charges were laid.

The blitz, held from March 30 to April 2, also saw one driver charged on both Sunday and Monday for the same offence.

In addition to London police, several other services across the province, including the OPP, participated in the initiative.

London police laid 59 charges in total consisting of:

  • three charges of inoperative, removed or modified seat belt
  • 47 charges of driver not wearing seat belt properly
  • eight charges of passenger not wearing seat belt properly
  • one charge of child passenger not properly secured

Improper or lack of seat belt use can result in a $240 fine plus the victim surcharge.
