Ridge Meadows RCMP clocked their most excessive speeder of the year on Sunday and they are once again reminding drivers of the legal consequences of speeding.
The driver was stopped during a routine patrol on Golden Ears Way and 113B in Maple Ridge. Police say the driver was going more than 90 km/h over the posted speed limit of 70 km/h. They were fined $483 for excessive speeding, and the vehicle was impounded for a minimum of seven days. They also face a potential Driver Risk Premium of $320 a year for the next three years.
Ridge Meadows RCMP is using the incident as a reminder that speeding will lead to severe fines and consequences, including the possibility of a Criminal Code Dangerous Driving charge.
“Some drivers still feel that they can get away with operating a vehicle at these dangerous speeds,” Insp. Aaron Paradis said in a release. “The decision to drive in this manner is inexcusable and can result in significant consequences, either to the driver themselves or, tragically, to others.”
Since December of 2017, a new RoadSafetyBC High Risk Driving Incident Report (HRDIR) was introduced, which can be submitted to the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles for further action, including driving bans for a minimum of three months.
