A spill of an unknown liquid in Coquitlam’s Lafarge Lake was being investigated by city crews Tuesday morning.
The city’s public works director Brad Lofgren says an unknown oily substance is forming a minor sheen on the west side of the lake.
Booms have been put in place to contain the spill.
“It’s certainly a relatively minor sheen that seems to be clinging to the shore of the lake, wildlife are not affected,” he said.

He said a sample has been taken to the lab and hopes to know what it is within the next 24 hours.
“At this point, we do not know where it came from, however it is strongly suspected that it came from the storm drainage system,” said Lofgren.
Lofgren said there is currently no danger to the public.
