The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) is offering a new Adopt an Acre initiative, which seeks to strengthen the province’s natural landscape for future generations.
The non-profit organization said native prairie and parkland are among the fastest disappearing wildlife habitats and the rate of habitat loss is at an all-time high.
SWF said Adopt an Acre will not only provides wildlife with the essentials for survival, but allow people to enjoy all the natural wonder the province has to offer.
The initiative aims to secure 100,000 acres of habitat land by 2028. Over 300 acres have been adopted to date.
For $50 per acre a year people can become a steward of Saskatchewan’s natural landscape. People who donate will receive a charitable tax receipt, certificate of adoption, and have their name listed in Outdoor Canada West.
“100 per cent of donations to Adopt an Acre will stay in Saskatchewan,” habitat coordinator Darren Newberry said in a press release.
“(Donations) go directly toward habitat securement for wildlife in Saskatchewan, with dollars being matched by additional funding through the Fish and Wildlife Development Fund.”
People can visit SWF online to download the adoption form.
Established in 1929, the SWF has grown to over 33,000 members in 121 branches across the province.
