Sgt. Paul Manaigre said the incident happened around 11 a.m., and saw several emergency response vehicles attend to the D Division headquarters.

“A person walked into the front entrance to the headquarters here and dropped off a grocery bag that contained a few containers,” he said.

“He indicated to our commissioners at the front desk that one of them may contain a type of poison, and then he walked out. At this point, they closed off the front lobby area for access and contacted emergency services.”

The front access was the only part of the building impacted, and no one was evacuated while the investigation took place.

“The situation’s a bit odd,” Manaigre continued. “We’re just looking into who the person might be but there might be a medical component that we’re investigating for this gentleman.”

“A couple of the commissioners may have had contact with the product but there’s been no concerns,” he said. “They’ve been checked over by EMS and everything’s fine so we don’t believe any of the product is dangerous, but we’re just getting that confirmed with the hazmat team from Winnipeg fire.”

Sgt. Manaigre said this is the second time this type of incident has happened over the past year.
