Longueuil police have deemed Heritage Regional High School safe after a suspicious package was found inside the school Wednesday morning.
Officers say the package did not contain explosives.
The school, located on Montreal’s south shore, was evacuated as a preventative measure after police received a call about a parcel found on campus at 10:30 a.m.
Students were safely brought to nearby André-Laurendeau Secondary School as police terminated their investigation, Longueuil police spokesperson Melanie Marcil said.
Officers are now working to find out who planted the parcel and if there was malicious intent.
Classes and after-school activities have been suspended for the rest of the day.
Traffic has been reopened on Chambly Road between Terrasse de Centre and Moïse-Vincent Boulevard.
The Riverside School Board is encouraging parents to pick up their children at the main door at André-Laurendeau Secondary School, located at 7450 Cousineau Blvd.
Daily school bus schedules will continue to operate as usual for the end of day drop-offs. The school board confirms that Thursdays classes will go on as scheduled.
