The City of Vernon plans to install eleven surveillance cameras in Polson Park.

The program is aimed a making the park feel safer.

“We are trying to bring a higher profile of people and just put more empahsis on enjoying the park with families,” said Shirley Koenig, the city’s director of operations services.

Polson Park has been the site of a number of violent crimes including a stabbing in February and a shooting last June.

The cameras won’t be regularly monitored but the footage will be available if an incident does occur.

The cameras are expected to be in place by May.

The installation will cost $35,000.
