If you happened to miss Thursday’s unveiling of Canada’s new $10 bill it is something that you will want to look at closely.
Otherwise, you’re going to be caught off guard when one lands in your wallet.
The new $10 bill is a spectacular purple polymer note that features civil rights icon Viola Desmond.
It also happens to be Canada’s first ever ‘vertical’ bank note.
The new bill got me to thinking about which trailblazing Canadian sports legends should appear on our $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills.
This proved to be an extremely difficult task because before I knew it I had 20 names on my list and I could added a lot more.
If I could put just one face on each of Canada’s five bills I would choose, in no particular order; Terry Fox, Wayne Gretzky, Dr. James Naismith, Nancy Greene and Rick Hansen.
Yes, I know, I have left off some incredibly iconic Canadians like Ferguson Jenkins, Mike Weir, Donovan Bailey, Christine Sinclair, Steve Nash, George Chuvalo, Hayley Wickenheiser, and on and on and on.
Perhaps we should bring the $1,000 bill back into circulation and include one giant collage of Canadian sport superstars?
