The Calgary Police Service (CPS) told Global News Thursday that a threat posted on social media Wednesday that referenced Robert Thirsk High School appeared to have come from a hacked account.
CPS said after an investigation, it was determined there was no threat to public safety.
RCMP said Wednesday afternoon that they were turning their investigation over to Calgary police after separate threats to “shoot a public place” in Cochrane or Calgary were made online.
Mounties said the threat, posted to Facebook, “originated in Calgary.”
Calgary police told Global News they don’t believe the threat is related to another incident at Columbia College.
Police evacuated the school and the bomb squad was called in on Wednesday morning after an unknown person claimed they had planted a bomb somewhere on campus.
RCMP repeated that there was no direct risk to any specific locations in Cochrane, adding that they take the threat very seriously.
On Wednesday morning, Mounties said they were in “continuous contact” with staff and administration in area schools.
