Guido Amsel, the man accused of five counts of attempted murder, alleges it was his ex-wife who is to blame for sending letter bombs around Winnipeg in the summer of 2015.
The 51-year-old is pointing the finger at Iris Amsel.

In an exclusive interview with Global News from Headingley Correctional Centre, Amsel not only claims he is being framed but said police arrested the wrong person.
“I believe very strongly that my ex-wife is behind it,” Amsel said.
Amsel and Iris moved to Winnipeg in the early 1990’s from Germany. The two started Eurotech Autobody shop where Amsel was in charge of labour and fixing cars and Iris was involved in the book keeping side of the business. She ordered parts, did billings and kept track of all the finances.

But when the two broke up, Amsel said their divorce left Iris angry.
“She has said she is going to destroy me and that’s what she really tried to do over the years,” he said from jail. “She has destroyed my business and she was going to destroy me.”

Amsel has claimed Iris was embezzling money from their business. However, he never had a forensic audit done on the company, Iris denied the allegation in court and Crown attorneys said he has no proof to support his claims.

“You couldn’t prove that Iris Amsel stole $4 million from you,” said Crown attorney Chris Vanderhooft. “You thought your wife had criminally embezzled money from you and you wanted her in jail.”
Amsel said Iris sent the letter bombs to herself an others to frame him.
“She definitely could have something to do with it,” Amsel said on the phone.
But it was another allegation the Crown tore apart under cross examination.
“You already said you believe Iris Amsel is behind it,” said Vanderhooft during trial. “You’re assuming this, sir, because you have no evidence of that.”
“Absolutely no evidence,” Amsel said. “I have some hints. Maybe she hired someone. I have no idea.”
Amsel has been behind bars since his arrest in the summer of 2015.
A judge has yet to render her verdict.
