Yogis hit the ice castles to brave another Winnipeg winter

Extra tough Winnipeggers got together at one of the city’s coolest attractions for a chance to sweat it out on Sunday.

It’s not the first time residents have done freezing workouts in Manitoba, but this weekend’s Ice Castle Yoga event was more than happy to capitalize on a great idea for a great cause.

The ice castles at The Forks, which have seen thousands of attendees throughout winter, were extra packed Sunday. But, unlike most of the season’s other visitors, those at the castle throughout the morning wore yoga pants, brought mats and did their best downward-facing dogs.

Local artist Kal Barteski organized the event to help raise money for the Polar Bear Fund, a charity that supports community-driven projects revolving around the animals.

Barteski has already been north to Churchill multiple times to help along the fund, which focuses mainly on small, meaningful research that will help polar bears.

Yogis were asked to bring a donation to the fund on Sunday.
