Driver seriously injured after hitting MTQ truck on Highway 20 in Drummondville

A 23-year-old driver is in hospital after ramming into a Transports Quebec (MTQ) truck from behind on Highway 20, says the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The accident happened at around 4:40 a.m. on kilometre 178 of Highway 20 in Drummondville.

The MTQ patroller was driving westbound looking for reported debris on the highway when a car crashed into him from behind.

The driver’s car was partially pinned under the MTQ truck, which forced emergency workers to use the jaws of life to rescue the young man.

The MTQ driver suffered no injuries, while the 23-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

Blood samples were taken from the young man as police believe alcohol may have been a factor.

If the samples turn out positive, the driver could be charged with driving under the influence.

The area is closed while police clear the accident, but is expected to reopen soon.
