The applause continued on Wednesday in Calgary for Canada’s Olympic medal winners.
Gold medal bobsleigh pilot Justin Kripps, luge silver medalists Justin Snith and Sam Edney, along with Alex Gough, a silver and bronze medal winner in luge, spoke to kids at Holy Name School in Calgary.
Grade 1 student Viktor Bykov was excited to get the chance to wear Kripps’ gold medal for a moment.
“Awesome!” Bykov said. “I feel like I won.”
Other kids got to ride in an Olympic luge sled and the entire school sang O Canada to their heroes.
Kripps said he hopes the kids are inspired to chase whatever dream they have, athletic or otherwise.
“When you come home it’s your job to inspire the next youth or the next generation of athletes and kids in general. It doesn’t have to be to reach just their sports dreams, it can be any dream they set their mind to.”
In South Korea, Canada won the most medals the country has ever won at the Winter Olympics, bringing home 29 medals, including 10 gold.
