The LaSalle Black Knights shutout Frontenac 2-0 to win the KASSAA girls hockey title – Feb 28, 2018

For the first time ever, the LaSalle Black Knights have won the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association girls hockey championship.

On Wednesday afternoon at the Invista Centre, the Black Knights shut out the Frontenac Falcons 2-0 to take the KASSAA title. Goalie Jenna Kane stopped all 23 shots directed her way.
“This was an unusual season for us because we were expected to win basketball, but instead captured the hockey crown,” said the graduating netminder.
Kane, who has accepted a scholarship in fencing at Royal Military College, thanked her teammates for a fantastic season.
“No one expected us to be here. We were definitely the underdogs so it’s amazing that we were able to pull it out and win when we needed to. These girls played so hard. It was our best game of the year.

Abby Howland scored the game-winning goal. The Grade 9 rookie was ecstatic to win the championship.
“The girls worked really hard and stayed together as a team,” Howland said. “Our goalie really kept us in the game. Jenna has played a big part of our success. We got some lucky bounces this game but the girls played really hard and it really paid off.”

The Black Knights will now represent KASSAA at the Eastern Ontario championship tournament next week in Rockland.
The winner of that event will head to the Ontario AA championship in Timmins which starts on March 21.

Last week, LaSalle won the KASSAA senior boys basketball title for the first time in 30 years. The Black Knights defeated Frontenac 52-43.
