Toronto cop charged with careless use of firearm after allegedly firing gun

A Toronto police constable has been charged after allegedly shooting at a man during an investigation at a construction site last fall.

Toronto police said on Wednesday that the officer and his partner were sent to a site near Yonge Street and Queen’s Quay after the company’s security alarm was tripped on the night of Nov. 15.

The officers had received information that two trespassers were at the scene and conducted a search. Toronto police allege one of the officers shot at a man found on site, but missed and hit a construction shed.

On Tuesday, Constable Jason Levesque, a 44-year-old officer with 51 Division, was charged with careless use of a firearm. Toronto police spokesman Mark Pugash said he has been suspended with pay.

Levesque is scheduled to appear in court on April 4.
