Saskatoon RCMP have identified a 35-year-old man who was found dead on the river ice this past weekend.
The body was found roughly 15 kilometres southwest of Saskatoon at 5:15 p.m. CT on Feb. 25. Police attended and launched a sudden death investigation.
With help from the RCMP’s underwater recovery unit, the body was removed from the South Saskatchewan River ice.
Police have not released his name, but said he was from Saskatoon.
The cause of death is unknown at this time. An autopsy is scheduled to take place later this week in Saskatoon.
RCMP said on Tuesday morning that although the death does not appear suspicious, they are still investigating. The major crimes unit north and the provincial coroner’s office are assisting.
The man was not the subject of a missing person investigation.
