The Value Lot parking area near the terminal at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is closing March 1 and travellers will now have to park further away for long-term parking.
The airport is opening a new lot, Value Long Term, located near Templeton Station.
Vice president of commercial development at YVR, Scott Norris, says the closure of the value lot makes way for a new six-level parkade with approximately 2,200 stalls at $15 a day.
“The new Value Long-Term Lot has a covered walkway to make sure people are dry, the accessible stalls are nearby, there’s a heated waiting area for when people need to take a bus to the terminal,” he says.
Cars can remain parked in the current Value Lot until March 14, 2018.
Travellers will also have the option of using the Canada Line with a free transfer between the parking lot and the terminal, which will change to a shuttle bus during off-hours.
Authorities at YVR say travellers should have a parking plan when arriving at the airport next as this new parking lot is further away and will take people longer to reach the terminal.
Here are tips from YVR:
- Leave extra time as you become familiar with new parking options
- Review yvr.ca/parking for details of all parking options at YVR before setting out for the airport
- Book ahead to lower the cost
- If parking at the new Value Long Term lot, make sure to review the Canada Line train schedule—departing every seven to 20 minutes between 5:10 a.m. and 1:27 a.m.
- Know if you are arriving during non-scheduled train service. There will be a free shuttle bus that runs outside the Templeton Train Station every 30 minutes or less.
- Know where to go – Value Long Term is located immediately before Templeton Street off of Grant McConachie Way
