Hamilton police investigating suspicious fire at Cora restaurant in Ancaster

Hamilton Police are working with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal to investigate what they’re calling a “suspicious” fire at the Cora restaurant in Ancaster.

Firefighters were called to the restaurant at 73 Wilson St. W. at about 4:15 p.m. on Friday following a report of smoke conditions.

That was upgraded to a multiple alarm structure fire as firefighters tried to keep it from spreading to other units in the one storey commercial plaza.

The other businesses were evacuated as a precaution while emergency crews tackled the fire from inside the restaurant.

No one was injured and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

There was extensive smoke damage in the restaurant, with about $250,000 in estimated damages.

Hamilton Police say they’re working with the Ontario Fire Marshal to investigate the cause of the fire and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Constable Grandbois at 905-546-8970 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
