After two weeks of athleticism and national pride, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea have come to an end.

Canada walked away with 29 medals; 11 gold, eight silver and 10 bronze, which makes these games Canada’s most successful in history.

Short-track speedskater Kim Boutin has been selected as Team Canada’s flag bearer during the closing ceremonies. The 23-year-old from Sherbroke, Que., carried on Canada’s strong tradition in short-track speedskating, racing to three medals in Pyeongchang — silver in the 1,000 metres, and bronze in both the 500 and 1,500.

Canadian figure skating duo Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir captured a gold medal and shattered their own Olympic record, but not before capturing the hearts of viewers in Canada and around the world.

The Canadian women’s hockey team lost to the U.S. in the gold-medal match, which went to a shootout and ended in heartbreaking defeat. Canadian athletes also had strong showings in alpine and speedskating events.

The opening ceremonies kicked off the games two weeks ago with a fireworks show in a stadium holding more than 35,000 spectators.

According to the Olympics official website, the theme of the closing ceremonies will be “Next Wave,” and will strive for a festival atmosphere to celebrate the athletes’ achievements during the games.
