Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you the next head coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
That, of course, is once the June Jones era comes to an end.
Orlondo Steinauer is returning to Steeltown, and thank goodness.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Thursday that Steinauer has been named the team’s assistant head coach.
Steinauer left Hamilton after the 2016 CFL season for a job as defensive coordinator at Fresno State and helped the Bulldogs turn their program around, from a 1-11 season in 2016 to 10-4 and a victory in the Hawaii Bowl last year.
He was the Ticats’ defensive coordinator for three years, starting in 2013, and transformed the defense into one of the CFL’s most feared units.
Steinauer was on the last Ticats team to win the Grey Cup in 1999 and is beloved by his players and the fans.
Jones is 65 and he will be 68 when his current contract expires, opening the door for Steinauer – who will be 47 in three years – to take over in Tiger Town.
It’s not only a great hire, it’s a perfect succession plan for the Cats.
