Battlefords RCMP recover stolen guns after police chase

Battlefords RCMP say they have recovered a number of stolen guns after a police chase near North Battleford, Sask.

The guns, including several high-calibre hunting rifles, were stolen during a break and enter early Thursday morning at a home in Denholm.

Responding officers spotted a vehicle speeding westbound from the scene and said they kept the vehicle in sight as it drove through North Battleford.

Police tried to stop the vehicle once it was in the north end of the city but the driver refused to stop and headed out of the city on Highway 4.

Officers then started chasing the vehicle.

One cruiser was able to get ahead of the vehicle and then slowed down, causing the vehicle to rear-end the cruiser.

No injuries were reported however police said the suspect vehicle had considerable damage.

Several youth in the vehicle were arrested and officers said they recovered guns that matched those reported stolen from Denholm.

Charges have yet to be laid and Battleford RCMP continue to investigate.
