Relatives of a Saskatchewan woman who died in China are struggling over that country’s refusal to release her body to her family until the hospital bill is paid.

Alicia Garlock, from Melfort, died in hospital last week.

Garlock, who was 38, was working in Cheungdu as a teacher.

Her brother, Travis Garlock, said she went in to hospital for treatment in January for a suspected case of pneumonia and then contracted the flu.

He said her body is in a morgue.

Garlock said due to the lengthy hospital stay and gaps in her insurance coverage the family is now saddled with hefty medical bills and is trying to raise $100,000 through GoFundMe.com.
