Lafond, 21, was a passenger in a stolen truck when the driver crashed into a fence near Bethlehem Catholic High School on Oct. 23, 2016 while being chased by Saskatoon police.

He was seriously injured and died the next day in hospital.

The driver of the stolen truck, Reece Terrance Fiddler, was sentenced in September 2017 to four years in prison for evading police, along with other charges.

The chief coroner can call an inquest in the death of any person to determine, in part, the medical cause and manner of death.

The coroner’s jury can make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.
