Student arrested after suspected threat at Centennial Regional High School

A 16-year-old student has been arrested after a potential threat at Centennial Regional High School in Montreal’s south shore neighbourhood of Greenfield Park was posted on social media Thursday night.

“There was a situation among the students and it ended with a student being very, very upset,” said Sylvain Racette Director General of the Riverside School Board.

Longueuil police received several 911 call after death threats were posted online.

“There were messages on social networks saying the student would go to school in the morning armed with a firearm,” said Longueuil police spokesperson Marie Beauvais-Lavoie.

The force said it is investigating in collaboration with the school “to obtain the necessary information.”

In addition to sending notices home to parents, the board took to Facebook to give an update on the situation.

“The administration will meet with staff and students to address the situation and to reassure them,” the post said.

“Riverside School Board always takes threats of any kind very seriously.”

Classes will continue as scheduled and there will be support services available to students.

“The threat of violence at school can cause anxiety to students,” the post continued, encouraging parents to speak to their children.

The teen was released from custody Friday afternoon and could face charges for uttering threats.
