Tyler MacComish is the only competitor with Down syndrome to make it to Ice Stock World Championship

25 year old Tyler MacComish lives with down syndrome, but that doesn't stop him from playing his favorite game, Ice Stock – Feb 13, 2018

Tyler MacComish, also known as Mr. Sydenham, will soon be making Sydenham High School very proud. He’s heading to Austria to compete on the world stage for Ice Stock.

MacComish, 25, lives with Down syndrome but that doesn’t stop him from playing his favourite game, Ice Stock.

MacComish has been playing Ice Stock for many years at Sydenham High School. He first joined as a student and has continued participating at the high school’s extra curricular activities even after graduating. He is still a big part of the student body.

MacComish is known for his kind heart and positivity. Those who know him say his spirit brightens the mood of students and staff.

Karl Hammer, Special Education Teacher at Sydenham High School, was MacComish’s teacher in 2006 and has still maintained a very close friendship with him. He says “he puts a smile on everyone’s face at the school and I don’t know what I would do without him. He is my family.”

MacComish uses Ice Stock as an outlet to release pent-up energy. and recently qualified for the Ice stock World Championships taking place in Austria on Feb. 26. MacComish will be the only special needs athlete to compete in Austria.

According to Ice Stock Canada, ice stock (also known as Bavarian Curling) is a winter sport, similar to curling.

MacComish is hoping to make his school and family proud.

MacComish doesn’t just want to participate at the world championships in Austria. “I want to bring home the gold medal” says MacComish.
