Families living in the Sage Creek neighbourhood worry their children won’t be able to attend the brand new school built in the area.
École Sage Creek School opened its doors to students in September 2017 and has already hit capacity.

Last week, the school had its official ribbon cutting and one week later it is holding an overpopulation meeting.
The overcrowding for many families is a concern because that means their kids could possibly be put on buses to other schools that have space.
Dorothy Komzak is a mother living in the Sage Creek neighbourhood. She said she and her husband built their home there so their daughters could eventually attend the new school when they were old enough.
“The fact that now they’re going to be taking the school out from under us and we can’t move; it’s not good,” Komzak said.
Thursday evening the Louis Riel School Division’s Acting Superintendent of the school division, Christian Michalik, addressed the concerns.
He said he always knew there would be a lot of students in the growing community and that’s why a request for a second school has been there for years.
“A new school’s been requested since 2013 officially,” Michalik said.
The school division said it has tried to find a solution or at least delay the inevitable.
It said it requested portables and was denied.
Komzak and her family tell Global News they worry they’ll have to put their kids on buses to other schools out of the area.
“It takes a village to raise a child is absolutely true. But, by removing a child from essentially a village is causing so much damage,” Komzak said.

The schools capacity is 600, and five months in to the first year it is already at 627 students and expects to keep on growing.
