London police: incident at headquarters ends peacefully

Police aren’t releasing many details about an incident at London Police Headquarters Thursday.

Officers, some in body armour, surrounded headquarters as areas of the Dundas Street building were on lock down for several hours.

Police say around 2:30 p.m. a distraught member of the London Police Service was isolated inside the building.

Middlesex-London EMS confirm they were called to police headquarters at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and asked to be on standby.

The incident was peacefully resolved just over nine hours later, ending without injury at 11:40 p.m.

Media Relations Officer Cst. Sandasha Bough says at no time was there any danger to the public as the incident was contained within a secure area.

“All employees other than those responding to the incident were evacuated from the area.”

Bough says that no charges are pending, and that no further information will be released regarding the incident or the officer.

London police is one of the largest municipal police departments in Ontario, with about 600 officers and 200 civilian staff that work out of the Dundas Street building.

No word on how many staff were inside the building at the time of the incident.
