With over 6,000 U.S. retail stores closing this year as the bricks-and-mortar-versus-online battle continues to grow, retailers are putting the pressure on to lure shoppers back into their stores.
The numbers are huge, as about 69 per cent of Americans, or 164 million people, which is over half the U.S. adult population, intends to shop sometime in the next five days.
Black Friday will be the busiest day as the National Retail Federation expects about 115 million people to shop.
While Thanksgiving Day used to be a holiday all workers could count on to spend with their families, that has now turned into a regular workday as the likes of Macy’s, JC Penny, Toys “R” Us, Target and Wal-Mart have unparalleled price cuts to lure shoppers back into their stores.
This includes Canadians heading south in unprecedented numbers.
