1 dead, 3 in hospital after 5-vehicle crash in Grande Prairie area

The RCMP is investigating after a 33-year-old woman was killed in a crash involving five vehicles north of Grande Prairie, Alta. on Wednesday morning.

Mounties said officers were called to a crash at 116 Street, north of 132 Avenue, shortly after 8 a.m. Investigators believe a semi-truck was headed north when it crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming SUV. According to police, three other vehicles were involved as well but it wasn’t clear how.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the semi-truck, as well as two other drivers, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both lanes of 116 Street were closed for several hours but were reopened Wednesday afternoon.
