2nd Hamilton-area high school cleared after bomb threat

Two Hamilton-area high schools have been cleared after being evacuated on Monday due to bomb threats.

It’s unclear if the incidents could be connected, as Hamilton police said the investigations are still in the preliminary stage.

“As in all investigations, police investigate the validity of the threat and to confirm if there are any connections to other similar incidents,” Const. Jerome Stewart told AM 900 CHML via email.

Just before 1 p.m., Hamilton police said they were on scene at Ancaster High School as a result of threats made towards staff and students.

In a message posted on the Ancaster high website, administrators called the incident a “bomb threat.”

Students were evacuated from the building and sent to the Morgan Firestone Arena and Ancaster Community Centre across the street.

About an hour later, police said the officers had given the all-clear.

Classes at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in Westdale, which was evacuated Monday morning due to another bomb threat investigation, were cancelled for the remainder of the afternoon.

Shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday, police said they were told that a threat had been made against the students and staff at the school.

Just after 11 a.m., police said all students had been evacuated and are safe.
